http://www.wowhead.com/spell=5938#commentsYes, i can see Shiv being situational, but other than that, its a side tool. Its weak; very weak.
Also, using it to gain straight 5 CP's is pointless. Mutilate is so much better at doing that.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lets do some math, eh?
Lets just say 35 energy for shiv. 55 energy for Mutilate. (YOU SHOULD HAVE MUT GLYPH IF SPECCED MUT!)
35 energy X 5 = 175 energy for 5 CP's. Look at that number......wow.
Now, Mutilate gives 2 Cps a shot. So, since 5 isnt divisible by 2, we'll try 4 CP's. Dont worry, Im going somewhere with this.
55 energy X 2 = 110 energy for 4 CP's. Geez, pop ANOTHER mutilate, adding 55 more energy and you got a Grand Total of 165 energy used! Extreme damage compared to Shiving and more energy efficient too!
But wait, the Seal Fate 5/5 talent give another CP when crit, so say Mutilate crits, you have 5 CP's for 110 energy!
175 - 110 = 65 energy gain. Use that extra energy gain to hit Eviscerate!
Therefore, Shiv is situational
