Get a Glow up With Transmog Updates in MidnightWe’re taking the transmogrification system to a new level with an overhaul to its functionality. Save to gear slots, style multiple outfits, and dress for the moment anywhere your adventures take you in Azeroth.
Apply Appearances to Gear SlotsWe’re making some significant changes to the way the transmog system works. Currently, when you acquire new gear and equip it, you have to transmogrify that gear back to the appearance you had before. With the new system, we’ve changed this so that you can apply and save an appearance to a specific gear slot instead of the gear itself. So, if you have an appearance set for your shoulders, equipping new shoulders won’t overwrite the transmog appearance you previously set. The new gear will simply inherit the look defined for that slot. You’ll still need to pay a gold cost any time you update an outfit to a specific style, but you won’t have to visit a transmog vendor to fix your look whenever you collect and equip new gear, saving you both time and gold when out on your adventures.
All UI elements subject to change. Dress for Every SituationThe updated transmog system also provides an additional opportunity for adding more customization and self-expression. You’ll be able to unlock and save dozens of outfits. Unlocking outfit slots will cost gold, but once they are unlocked, switching between saved outfits is free. Each outfit can be added to your action bar, allowing you to manually update your look any time you want without having to visit a transmog vendor.
You’ll also be able to switch outfits automatically for different situations in the game. Each outfit allows you to define a set of situation options. This means that if you have a particular look you want to wear, whether you’re going to town, diving into a dungeon, changing your specialization, or returning to your home after a long day of adventuring, you can map that outfit to that activity and it will switch automatically.
As with many of our systems, this is just the beginning, and we plan to build on this foundation in the months—and years—ahead.

New or Returning, Take Your Character to the Next Level!Whether you’re new to Azeroth or returning to undertake the next chapter in the evolving story within Midnight, we’ve got you covered when the 11.2.7 content update arrives later this year. New players will find a smoother transition to get caught up with an updated New Player Experience. Players looking to come back will find a guided Returning Player Experience to help you remember how to play the game and get you on the path to the next latest content in World of Warcraft.
Exile’s ReachTo help new players begin their journey in World of Warcraft and get ready for the Midnight expansion, we are updating Exile's Reach to flow directly into the story of the Dragonflight expansion.
The leveling campaign now includes several pieces of content that were previously gated behind the endgame, including new story mode raids. Players can now experience the entirety of the Dragonflight story leading them up to level 70 and the beginning of the first chapter of the Worldsoul Saga—The War Within.
Existing players will still be able to bypass Exile's Reach and use Chromie Time to choose the expansion they want to play first.
Returning Player UpdatesFor those who have left for a time and are returning to Azeroth, it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming trying to remember where you left off. You’re often confronted with bags full of items you don’t remember, a full quest log, and a variety of talents and icons to reacquaint yourself with. It seems easier to make a new character.
To help players overcome these challenges, we’re introducing a Returning Player Experience.
Returning Player ExperienceFrom the character select screen you can directly travel to the Arathi Highlands to help Thrall and Jaina. We'll hide your existing quests during this experience to let you focus on getting reacquainted with your character and the game.
Returning players will have the aid of our Assisted Highlight system, which highlights what damage dealing ability you should use next, to get up to speed with how their character works. New tutorials have also been added to help with Skyriding and how to use interrupts.
At the end of this questline we'll get you geared up in appropriate level gear and back into action.
You can leave the Arathi Highlands experience at any point. Players can also access the experience whenever they want from within the game.
Play Through The War Within RecapPlayers who have missed The War Within story, or who need a catch-up, can take part in an accelerated play-through of the expansion. In just a few hours of playtime, this experience will take you through the complete story, beginning on the Isle of Dorn and delivering you to the broken world of K’aresh. Along the way, you’ll be able to view key cinematics and follow the story of The War Within's main characters. Anyone who wants to catch up on the story before taking the next step into Midnight can enjoy this experience.
New players will also level from 70 to 80 this way instead of having to go through the entirety of the content.
You won’t need to wait for the launch of Midnight. The New Player Experience, the Returning Player Experience, and The War Within Recap will all be available in the 11.2.7 content update later this year, alongside Housing Early Access.

Take up Arms with Midnight’s PvP UpdatesIn Midnight, we’re adding the Slayer’s Rise battleground, outdoor World PvP objectives in the Voidstorm, and Training Grounds to help you get your PvP legs underneath you.
Slayer’s Rise BattlegroundIn Midnight, we’re introducing a major new PvP feature called the Slayer’s Rise battleground. Set in the Voidstorm, it is a 40 vs 40 epic battleground inspired by the large-scale battles that can be found in Alterac Valley and Isle of Conquest battlegrounds.
Setting: There is a conflict afoot between two powerful domanaar warlords fighting for control. Alliance and Horde forces will find themselves thrust in the middle of this conflict and aligned with one of these opposing domanaar.
Players will begin on opposite sides of the map and initially make their way to the middle where a 40 vs 40 brawl will take place over an initial control point that will give the controlling party an early advantage in the map.
Each side will then push down a lane toward the opposing base, destroying defenses and killing key NPCs along the way, in an attempt to ultimately defeat the opposing domanaar. Players will also need to break off to recruit neutral NPC forces to aid their side and help push through their lane. You and your team will need to balance a mix of attacking, defending, and recruiting as you progress through the battleground to claim victory.
Take Your PvP OutsideThe Slayer’s Rise battleground will also have an accessible outdoor section of the Voidstorm zone, setting the stage for some epic world PvP. It is designed with points of conflict throughout and includes locations with PvP vendors and more.
Key Points of Interest:- Horde Keep: Local Stories, Faction NPCs, and Guards
- Alliance Keep: Local Stories, Faction NPCs, and Guards
- Neutral PvP Hub: Dueling Area, PvP Vendors, Portals to PvP Areas
The area will also have regular World Quests for those who choose not to use War Mode, but greater rewards will be available to those who take part in the world PvP that the area supports.
Training GroundsFor players new to PvP, you can learn the PvP ropes in the Training Grounds. Expanding and revamping the idea found in Comp Stomp, players will join a battle against smarter game-controlled opponents in Arathi Basin, Silvershard Mines, and Battle for Gilneas. You’ll become more comfortable with how these battlegrounds work and how classes can work within them, gaining confidence and opening the door to more PvP experiences in the game. While players can expect winrates higher than 50%, the game-controlled opponents will not be pushovers. Skill and coordination will be required to achieve victory!
We look forward to seeing you in the fields of battle!

Hunt or Be Hunted with the Prey System in MidnightA new opt-in hunting system, Prey, lets you pursue powerful targets across the Midnight expansion zones.
Join the hunt by speaking with Magister Astalor Bloodsworn in Murder Row in Silvermoon City. Here, you’ll take on the challenge of hunting a specific target.
Once you have a target, you can continue your travels through the zones as you normally would. You will also be able to engage with several new Prey-specific gameplay mechanics and unique World Quests. Stay on your toes or your prey may find you before you find them. How and when you detect your prey is meant to be unpredictable, and it could take any number of activities or discoveries before you see them—or they see you.
Unlock three difficulty levels as you progress: Normal, Hard, and Nightmare. While in Normal difficulty other players will be able to come to your aid and help you take down your target in the outdoor world. Once you’ve reached Hard and Nightmare difficulties, you’ll need to contend with extra abilities on your enemy called Torments that make both the hunt and the final fight considerably more challenging. You and your friends will be on your own in your final encounter to take them down. No raid groups here!
Prey RewardsEarn a variety of cosmetic rewards to add to your collections, including mounts such as mana wyrm-themed mounts and transmog appearances. You will also be able to earn power rewards up to the Hero track and will also contribute to the Great Vault outdoor activity slot each week.
Will you be the hunter or the hunted?

Explore the Zones of MidnightBattle your way to a new level cap of 90 as you explore four reimagined and new zones in Midnight. You’ll return to the homelands of the blood elves in Eversong Woods, explore the capital of the Amani trolls in Zul’Aman, travel beneath the roots of the world trees to Harandar, and face the all-consuming Void in The Voidstorm.
At a Glance:- Zone- Eversong Woods: A part of the kingdom of Quel’thalas, it is comprised of the newly combined zones of Eversong Woods and Ghostlands and has been expanded and reimagined with enhanced graphics. Silvermoon City stands as its shining capital.
- Blood Elves: Members of the Horde, this proud race once used the moniker of ‘high elves’ before adopting the name of the sin’dorei (children of the blood) in the wake of tragedy.
- New Zone- Zul’Aman: New expanded zone and home of the Amani trolls. It is a temperate region with forests and mountains.
- Amani trolls: These forest trolls were once led by the powerful chieftain Zul’jin and are now led by his granddaughter, Zul’jarra.
- New Zone- Harandar: The home of the haranir found among the roots of the world trees. It is a fungal jungle alight with bioluminescence, where its people live in harmony with the nature around them.
- Haranir: A reclusive people, they serve as ancient guardians of the rootways and led by a council of elders.
- New Zone- Voidstorm: Void suffuses this hostile zone of all-consuming cosmic predation. The creatures who reside here are rife with a deep hunger and are keen to devour anything and anyone to gain power. Alongside our allies, we’ll storm the Voidspire raid here as we take the fight to Xal’atath.
- Void elves: The ren'dorei were once banished from Silvermoon for their research into the Void, yet now step forward to use their expertise to protect their home. Though the power of the Voidstorm threatens to overwhelm them, their knowledge may be our greatest asset.
Eversong Woods: Home of the Blood ElvesImmerse yourself in the revitalized Eversong Woods, with graphic updates breathing new life into this iconic blood elf homeland. A combination of the original Eversong Woods and the Ghostlands, the zone has been slightly expanded and connected to the Eastern Kingdoms. Players can take to the skies and Skyride through the zone, without loading screens, while experiencing the majesty of the glittering spires of blood elf architecture and golden foliage of the forests from above.
The passage of time has healed many wounds in the land, including the Dead Scar, created by the Scourge invasion. Yet, places of death and darkness yet remain, out of sight and mind.
Your journey will begin here as the sin’dorei protect themselves not only from the Void, but other threats both familiar and new.
Zul’Aman: Home of the Amani TrollsThe volatile neighbors to the blood elves, the Amani trolls reside in their capital of Zul’Aman. They are a proud people who have fought hard for their land and overcome significant hardships and challenges. Comprised of old forests and tall mountains with periodic rainfall, you’ll take a journey deeper into their culture and history as you explore all this zone has to offer.
It is here you’ll meet the grandchildren of Zul’jin: Zul’jarra and Zul’jan. Zul’jarra is the leader of the Amani trolls, and her brother, Zul’jan, serves as her adviser. The uneasy peace that has settled between the Amani and the blood elves has begun to weaken as the threat of the Void continues to drive wedges between nations. It falls to you to venture into this ancient land and learn more of the deep culture of the Amani.
Chieftain Zul’jarra is searching for a solution to help her people survive the Void onslaught that is coming their way. Having lost touch with the loa and the ongoing tensions with the neighboring blood elves, they are struggling to push back the Void. You’ll explore the abandoned and overgrown Akil’zon (eagle), Halazzi (lynx), Jan’alai (dragonhawk), and Nalorakk (bear) loa temples as you delve deeper into their story.
Harandar: Home to the HaranirThe home of the haranir is a fungal jungle where the roots of all the world trees converge. The haranir travel through the rootways to move around the world, observing Azeroth in secret but never intervening openly in the world’s affairs. In the zone lies the Rift of Aln, a primordial wound where the barrier between dreams and reality grow thin. There, the echoes of the Goddess’ anguish are powerful enough to drive most haranir mad. Horrifying, half formed creatures emerge from within, threatening all of Harandar. Standing against these horrors are the Shul’ka—mystical and mysterious warriors who silence their connection to the goddess to allow them to safely traverse the Rift and defend Harandar from the horrors that dwell within.
VoidstormSuffused with Void, this hostile land is host to Void creatures of all varieties. Everything here is hungry and ready to devour and consume weaker creatures for their power. Xal’atath and her Devouring Host rule over this world of cosmic predation. Chief among her followers are the domanaar: some of the most powerful void creatures the world has ever known. They are highly intelligent beings with their own hierarchy gained through conquest and deceit.
Safety here is not guaranteed and you’ll need to work with your allies to carve your way through this vast and all-devouring wasteland.
We look forward to our continuing journey with you as we explore more of these zones together.

Battle Through Three New Raids in MidnightFace off against nine bosses split across three raid zones over the course of Midnight Season 1.
- The Voidspire: Ascend a towering structure filled with formidable foes and cosmic horrors, including a showdown with Dominus-Lord Averzian and Salhadaar in this six-boss raid.
- The Dreamrift: Step into the permeable veil between primordial dreams and brutal reality in this single boss raid encounter. Join the Shul’ka in their hunt of an undreamt god that never should have been and put down half-birthed abominations that lash out against existence itself.
- March on Quel'Danas: The story reaches a thrilling climax as the united armies of the elven tribes march on the iconic Sunwell Plateau.
Each of these raid zones will take players into different environments and settings as we tell the story of
Midnight throughout. With Story Mode, all players can experience the epic campaign moments within The Voidspire and March on Quel’Danas raids, while guilds and groups can play through the other available modes for more of a challenge.

Midnight: Come Home to Azeroth with HousingBuild, decorate, and personalize your home in Azeroth with the new Housing feature. Players can earn their own house and plot of land, move into a neighborhood with other players, or establish a neighborhood with their guild. Boundless self-expression awaits you!
A House for EveryoneHousing is for everyone in Midnight. If you want a house, you can have a house. No exorbitant requirements or high purchase costs, no lotteries, and no onerous upkeep. Your houses are also shared amongst your Warband with your different characters being able to come and go as you see fit (so your Orc character can hang out in your Alliance house without a problem). Housing rewards are also shared across your Warband allowing you to use your décor collection no matter which character earns it. If you have an Alliance character and a Horde character, both will be able to own one house in either the Horde or Alliance Neighborhood zones as well.
Alliance Neighborhood Zone: Founder’s Point
Horde Neighborhood Zone: Razorwind ShoresIt’s not just Warbands that cross factional lines but friendships as well, so you’ll be able to live in or visit your friends’ or guildmates’ houses and their neighborhoods with minimal restrictions regarding faction.
Embracing Boundless Self-ExpressionTo help you create the perfect living space, the Housing feature offers a variety of tools for customization with the option to design in either Basic or Advanced Modes. You’ll also be able to collect a variety of home décor, dye select items, resize them, and place them anywhere in your home.
You’ll be able to create a home that reflects your unique style and achievements in Azeroth. Whether you're looking to make the cover of the Gadgetzan Times or design a space that strikes fear into the hearts of your visitors, the Housing feature offers endless possibilities for customization.
The exterior of your home will be customizable as well, using a similar functionality to the in-game barber shop, with four different themed kits initially available: Blood Elf, Night Elf, Orc, and Human theming. Choose different towers, windows, facades, and more. It’s important to note that while your Horde characters can live in your Alliance house and your Alliance characters can live in your Horde house, you won't be able to use opposite faction exteriors in that neighborhood. This means that an Alliance neighborhood will always feature Alliance architecture, and a Horde neighborhood will always feature Horde architecture. Neutral architecture can appear in either neighborhood type.
Welcome to the NeighborhoodHomes in World of Warcraft are separated into two Neighborhood zones, Founder’s Point (for the Alliance), and Razorwind Shores (for the Horde). Each Neighborhood is made up of roughly 50 plots of the same size, all of which contain a house.
We want players with different preferences for locations to find a plot that’s perfect for them, be they vibe-based or looking for something for a specific character. Some plots are placed far away from everything for the hermits among us, while others are grouped together in small cul-de-sacs of two to three houses perfect for a small group of friends. Other houses are in larger groupings for folks looking for more hustle and bustle.
Similarly, there’s a variety of biomes in each zone, ranging from Founder’s Point’s spooky forests and autumnal farmland to the lush oases and windswept bluffs in Razorwind Shores. In both Neighborhoods, you’ll find a dynamic central hub area full of both NPC activity and Endeavors.
There are two types of Neighborhoods:- Public Neighborhoods – These are created as needed by the game servers and anyone can buy a house in them. As they fill up, new instances are created, so players looking for a house shouldn’t see a message about all the neighborhoods being full. Public Neighborhoods are run by the game as well, including naming it (with a semi-procedurally generated name), organizing, and keeping the neighborhood running however is needed.
- Private Neighborhoods – These are created and owned by players, either by Guilds as Guild Neighborhoods, or by arbitrary groups of players as Charter Neighborhoods.
Undertaking EndeavorsEndeavors are a Neighborhood-wide activity open to anyone who lives in the Neighborhood. Endeavors occur approximately once a month and when a new Endeavor becomes available the Neighborhood is provided with the opportunity to learn from various cultures and factions of Azeroth by completing different tasks. Players in Private Neighborhoods can choose from a selection of Endeavors, though occasionally a set Endeavor appears to highlight things happening in the world. In Public Neighborhoods, the game servers are responsible for choosing which Endeavors are active.
Each Endeavor has a group of tasks that are collectively completed by the Neighborhood. As tasks are completed, more NPCs from that area show up, making various themed decorations available to the neighborhood inhabitants (or even tovisiting players from other Neighborhoods), and the Neighborhood changes visually to be decorated in that faction’s fashion. The number of tasks required scales with Neighborhood size, so a 50-player Neighborhood will have to complete more tasks than a 10-player Neighborhood. Similarly, if a Neighborhood is less active, future Endeavors for that Neighborhood will also scale their requirements down to accommodate.
No Endeavor Activated
Mechagon EndeavorComplete themed Endeavors in your Neighborhoods, adding a unique touch to your home.
A Very Rewarding ExperiencePlayers can earn rewards through a variety of sources, whether you’re buying from someone on the Auction House, you’ve completed achievements such as defeating Onyxia in her lair, making something using a profession, or just through adventuring; you’ll have plenty of ways to add to your collection.
Decor should come from everywhere and everything! We want you to find decor rewards in all sorts of gameplay, not just a single avenue. For example, while a specific jade-inlaid bookshelf might come from a particular quest in Pandaria, other bookshelves could come from vendors, professions, or other varied forms of content.
Open House: Take the Housing TourTake a 3D Tour of Housing and see the evolving customization options that await you!
Take the TourGo Deeper into the design in our previously published development articles:
Begin your journey with the 11.2.7 content update. Players with Midnight will gain early access to Housing, and all players will be able to begin collecting an assortment of starting décor items to prepare for the release of Midnight.
We’ll put out the "Welcome" mat for you!

Unleash Your Skills in Midnight's New DelvesTake on new challenges through ten new Delves and one new seasonal Nemesis Delve alongside a new NPC companion—legendary blood elf rogue Valeera Sanguinar. You’ll experience more of the story of Midnight interwoven through new quests and even experience the great outdoors—taking the adventure outside for the first time.
We’re introducing new layouts and enemies while removing some of the things that we found didn’t work as well in The War Within. Players will still find the same variety and replayability as they’ve grown to love, however.
We’re also staging a couple of Delves in outdoor spaces where players can use their ground mounts to get around more easily. You’ll also experience new quests to carry you through the overarching story in the zone.
Twilight Crypts
Sunkiller Sanctum
Sunkiller Sanctum Delves- The Shadow Enclave
- Collegiate Calamity
- Parhelion Plaza
- The Darkway
- Twilight Crypts
- Atal’Aman
- The Grudge Pit
- The Gulf of Memory
- Sunkiller Sanctum
- Shadowguard Point
- Torment’s Rise (Nemesis)
In place of Brann Bronzebeard, the legendary blood elf rogue Valeera Sanguinar will join us as a new NPC companion taking on all three support roles players are familiar with. She will lend her aid in many of the same ways as Brann but, hopefully, will avoid standing in things that she shouldn’t.
We look forward to sharing more details in the weeks to come!

Midnight: Get up to Speed with User Interface UpdatesWe’re making improvements to Nameplates, adding Damage Meters to the base UI, integrating boss alerts into our raid design in Midnight, and more.
Nameplate ImprovementsAs a part of our continuing User Interface (UI) improvements, we are taking aim at Nameplates in Midnight. Nameplates provide a valuable window into what is happening in the game with you, your allies, and the status of your enemies. This informs you of how you might need to respond to what is happening around you. Currently, the default Nameplates don’t provide all the information that players might be looking for.
All UI elements are subject to change. We want to improve the ability for players to see and customize buff and debuff displays on Nameplates. We also want to call out important lethal casts. This is being integrated into encounter designs. If there is a cast that is likely to wipe you out if it hits its targets, that is something that can be in a larger highlighted cast bar so that you’re aware that it’s a higher-priority interrupt. You shouldn’t need an add-on or an external guide to tell you these things when the game should.
PvP Nameplates will also highlight crowd-control effects when you’re in the thick of battle. It’s all about giving you the information you need when you need it.
Damage MetersWe are adding Damage Meters to the base UI. Damage Meters are currently one of the most popular add-on types that we see players use, and it is only natural to want to know whether a new talent build or trinket is having the desired effect. We want to make sure that information is available without needing to rely on external tools. This new addition to the UI will be tracked server-side, allowing for greater accuracy in certain situations than was previously possible with add-ons.
All UI elements are subject to change. Boss AlertsSince nearly the beginning of raiding, players have used external tools to warn them of major boss abilities during raid encounters. While those tools are helpful to have, expecting players to go out to get them to use when raiding isn’t the experience that we feel players deserve. To rectify this, we are building in a lot of that functionality into our encounters in Midnight. Players will be able to see a timeline of major critical abilities that are coming up, receive alerts when targeted, and access other necessary information to overcome challenges.
All UI elements are subject to change. More Quality-of-Life ImprovementsPersonal Resource Bar
All UI elements are subject to change. The Personal Resource Bar is also getting an upgrade. It’s becoming a HUD element instead of a floating Nameplate that can become hidden behind other elements. You’ll be able to fully customize this UI element in Edit Mode, move it, scale it, or change transparency.
Cooldown Manager UpdatesAccessible in both Edit Mode and the Options Menu, the Cooldown Manager lets you customize how you track your cooldowns. This new tool is currently available in the live game but we are continuing to make additional improvements with more arriving in the 11.2.5 content update.
You’ll be able to select which auras you want to track, add debuff states for your selected target, and even track active external defensives—like Iron Bark—on your teammates. You can save different profiles and set up sound alerts to call things out. It’s a powerful tool, and we’re excited to see how you use it.
These are just a few of the User Interface improvements that we have planned, with many more to come at launch and beyond, as we look to continue to make improvements throughout the future ahead. Our ultimate goal is to make the base user experience the best that it can be.

Midnight: Embrace the Void with the Devourer SpecializationIntroducing the Devourer Demon Hunter, a third specialization that utilizes the power of the Void instead of Fel, like other Demon Hunters. This glaive-wielding, soul-harvesting, and planet crushing spellcaster operates from mid-range with the full suite of mobility you'd expect from Demon Hunters. Use specialization and Hero Talents to augment your playstyle, enabling you to dive into melee and unleash devastating combo attacks.

Collapsing Star: A substantial portion of your
Void Metamorphosis damage is going to come from this earth-shattering finisher:

Collapsing Star in
Void Metamorphosis, it gets stronger.
25-yard range
2.5 Second Cast

While casting
Collapsing Star, your Fury drain is paused.
For a little extra Void, when in the Devourer specialization, all Demon Hunter abilities will use Void effects and icons, even abilities that are shared across all three specializations.
New Hero TalentsWith the introduction of a new specialization, Demon Hunters also gain a new Hero Talent tree—Annihilator. This new tree is shared between Devourer and Vengeance Demon Hunters. Devourer Demon Hunters will also gain access to the Scarred Hero Talent tree (formerly called Fel Scarred).
