Rise the Ranks in the Bout of Realms

The heralds have signaled this glorious event, adventurer. Hone your blades, sharpen your wits. The Bout of Realms has returned! Our next content update brings the Bout of Realms limited-time event, new legendary items, balance changes, and more.

As with all previous content updates, there will be server maintenance starting on October 28th, from 5-7 p.m. PDT for Oceania, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe servers, and on October 29th from 1-3 a.m. PDT for servers in the Americas. After the maintenance has concluded, all items mentioned below will be live—specific dates for any features going live afterward are provided below.

As this article is an early look at the next content update, information conveyed in this article may be subject to adjustment.

Bout of Realms Returns Triumphant

The bravest fighters of Sanctuary gather for one unified purpose: to determine who among them can crown themselves champion. The Bout of Realms is a multistage Tower War PvP competition that pits teams of eight against other teams across servers within their home region.

The winners of each region will earn themselves the eternal glory of being crowned the ultimate victor of the Bout of Realms, as well as earning illustrious cosmetic rewards, Legendary Crests, and more.

For this Bout of Realms, we are making the competition even more glorious than before. After winning teams are crowned champions of their Regions, they’ll have a chance to compete to become the winning team of their entire Cross-Regional server! One team will be crowned champion of the Asian and Pacific Servers, the other champion of the Western Servers of North America and Europe.

The first stage of the competition will resemble the last time we ran Bout of Realms, which is now the Qualifier for the Cross-Regional competition.

Prepare for the Bout of Realms

From November 5–November 9, 3 a.m., Register for Bout of Realms by forming a party of up to eight players from within your server. Party members can be swapped at any time within the registration period. Once registration has ended on November 9, parties are locked and cannot be changed. Choose your teammates wisely, for they will be your key to success.

Round 1: Cross-Server Bout of Realms

Preliminaries

From November 10—November 14, 3 a.m., each team will participate in a total of 15 matches for Preliminaries. These take place each day local server time at:
  • 9 p.m.
  • 9:30 p.m.
  • 10 p.m.
This is five days of three back-to-back battles, so be prepared before you commit yourself to a team. Your party will be counting on you.

Preliminary matches grant:
  • 3 points for a win
  • 1 point for a loss
  • 0 point for a forfeit
Ties are decided by the number of kills made during the matches. Participating in the Preliminaries earns you a Legendary item, Gold, scrap and Dust. Once Preliminaries have concluded the top scoring teams will advance. Up to 64 teams will move forward to the Finals, depending on server size.

Elimination Rounds

From November 11—November 21, 64 teams across servers compete for the top four spots in a best of three elimination match. Each match occurs at:
  • 9 p.m. local server time
If you win, you’ll advance to the next night, but if you lose, you’ll be eliminated.

Finals

From November 22—November 23, the top teams will battle it out in a best of five format. The team left standing in the final match will be crowned the Champion, with the losing team being the runner up.

Round 2: Cross-Regional Bout of Realms

After the dust has settled on the first round, the newly crowned Champions will have the mighty task of seeing who among them can reach the pinnacle.

This competition is split into two divisions: Asia/Pacific and Europe/North America. Each Division will include eight teams. At the end of the competition, there’ll be a Champion for each Division. Note that the number of invited teams is determined based on the number of servers in the region.

Qualifying Teams

Asia/Pacific Division:
  • Mainland China: Top 4 teams in the Cross-Server round
  • Japan, Korea, Australia: Champion and Runner-up Teams
  • Southeast Asia: Champion and Runner-up Teams
Europe/North America Division:

  • North America East: Champion and Runner-up teams
  • North America West: Champion and Runner-up teams
Invitations

From November 24—November 30, if you’ve qualified, you’ll receive an invitation to participate.

If you do not get more than three people to confirm your participation in the event, the next runner-up team will be selected to participate.

Double Round Robin

From November 1—November 8, you’ll face off against every other team in your division twice, earning points for each win. The server for the match will be selected based off distance, unless a server in fair middle ground is determined. Each team will play a total of 14 matches.

Preliminary matches grant:

New Familiar Amalgamations

Your Familiars have been by your side through your eternal fight against the forces of the Burning Hells, and through your combined trials, something miraculous is occurring. More than an ability to support you through the most harrowing onslaughts... they’re evolving.

Introducing Amalgamated Familiars

When undergoing Conversion, your Aberrant Familiars have a chance to take on a new sub-species. Familiars that undergo this transformation will inherit a new Legendary Trait called an Amalgamation, and their Active Skills will be enhanced.

All Amalgamated Familiars will gain more powerful, new Active Skills, and have 2+ Legendary Skills.

How to Obtain an Amalgam Familiar

You have the chance to obtain an Amalgam Familiar through any Aberrant Conversion. It’s a rare chance, but fate just might smile upon you.

Adding a Conversion Stone to the Conversion will increase your chances of receiving a Subspecies Familiar if you do not use a Subspecies Familiar in the Conversion. Additionally, if you manage to get an Amalgamated Familiar and use it in Conversion, you’ll guarantee that the Converted Familiar will be the same species as that Amalgam Familiar, or one of the Amalgam Familiars if you use multiple.

Feature Updates

Legendary Item Blessing

In an effort to make it easier to earn Legendary Items, you’ll now have a one hour daily blessing which you’ll be able to use to activate your item drops, essences or items for other classes.

You can activate or pause this blessing at will throughout the week, using your hour precisely how you want. Once activated, this blessing affects all Legendary Item drops from monsters.

Items that drop from chests, limited-time events, or other non-combat rewards are not affected.

There are three Blessings you can select:
  • Rarity Blessing: grants a higher cance to drop high-tier Legendary Items.
  • Essence Blessing: Increased chance to drop items with Legendary Affixes that you don’t currently have.
  • Class Blessing: Chance to drop Legendary Items for other classes, helping you gain items to prepare for a future class swap.
Battleground Updates

Introducing: Boundary Protection

To prevent players from using certain skills to escape the map or enter enemy spawn areas, we’ve added a new Boundary Protection system.

If you enter an enemy spawn area or move into an out of bounds zone, you’ll be pulled back to the nearest location and lose 55% of your maximum Health. If you cross into one of these zones twice, you’ll die and respawn at your base.

Post-Match Survey

To better understand what your feelings are on Battleground, we’re including a post-match survey for Battleground. You’ll be able to rate how the match went, which will help for future improvements towards balancing and matchmaking.

Blessed Reign Changes

If you use a Server Transfer while a Blessed Reign is active, you’ll need to wait until the next Blessed Reign to earn progress towards the Shadow Cloak.

Notification Changes

We’ve recategorized some notifications between what can be marked as read via the “Read All” function vs. the notifications that must be checked one by one.

Blessed Hunter Event Updates

The Blessed Hunter event is being extended until December 17th, and we have adjusted and increased the chances for each blessing to occur.
