Come to Sharval’s Aid in Our Next Major Update

Tensions run high in Sharval as clashes between its people deepen wounds inflicted on the very land. As desperation mounts, the citizens of Highfork, a town in the Sharval Wilds, seek aid wherever it may present itself, even if that same aid may be their undoing.

Our twelfth major update, Prince of Freedom, releases on June 19. Get acquainted with some of the coming features alongside the next chapter in the Epoch of Madness storyline, such as Party Duels, new Helliquary Bosses, Ancient Legendary items, and more. Plus, you can claim a 5-Star Quality 2 Blood Floe Legendary Gem as a gift from Battle.net from June 19–July 2—read on for more details.

As with previous content updates, there will be server maintenance starting on June 18, from 5–7 p.m. PDT for Oceania, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe servers, and on June 19, from 1–3 a.m. PDT for servers in the Americas. After the maintenance has concluded, all items mentioned below will be live—specific dates for any features going live afterward are provided below.

As this is an early look, all information conveyed in this article is subject to change.

Prince of Freedom Main Quest

In Prince of Freedom, you'll follow the track of Albrecht and the Shardborne further into the Sharval Wilds. You'll return to Orthrup, visit the township of Highfork, and navigate the atmosphere of revolt bubbling throughout every corner of Sharval as you travel further west. Within the shadowed canopies of Sharval's deep woods, darker answers—and new questions—await. Playing through the quest will also unlock cosmetic rewards—new Defender of the Wilds transmog appearances for two of your item slots, and a strange good luck charm with quite a bit to say about Sharval.

To begin the Price of Freedom quest, you must be on Hell Difficulty I or higher, have reached Paragon level 60 or above, and have completed the Writhing Wilds quest.

Clobber the Competition in Party Duels

Want to prove you’re Sanctuary’s finest defender? Grab your best loadout and head to the wilderness with up to three other players in your party. Using the new Party Duels PvP feature, you can initiate a duel with another team of up to four players. To get the fight started, click/tap on another player and select the “Challenge” button. Once your invitation has been accepted, a warm-up phase will be initiated, and then the brawl begins!

To the winner go the spoils, which in this case are commemorative badges of your triumphant victory. All players can initiate a Party Duel, and any monsters in the vicinity of your duel will be excluded from the conflict.

Party Duels were created as a flexible, barrier-free PvP offering that can be engaged with on your terms. We look forward to seeing how you use this new way of playing.

Dare to Challenge the Bloomhollow

The Bloomhollow Helliquary bosses hunger for adventurers foolish enough to oppose them. These avatars of nature’s rot and decay—fey monstrosities awakened by the turmoil in Sharval—threaten to consume anyone who dares to tread upon their forested domain.

With the Bloomhollow’s appearance on June 19 comes a new Server Paragon Level of 900 and three new difficulty levels: Inferno VII, VII, and XI.

To unlock Inferno Difficulty VII, you must defeat Deosbrae, Sovereign Shade.

Thorncrown: This ancient fey is known to lurk within the darkest region of Sharval, hunting for humans. Ancient records indicate that the witches of the Untamable Wilds once communicated with Thorncrown by scratching symbols into wood. When the witches drew a human face, it repeatedly slashed at the drawing, reducing the bark to pulp.

Defeat Thorncrown to unlock Inferno Difficulty VIII.

Crooked Bough: Long ago, a circle of witches attacked a group of paladins within the Infested Monastery. Amidst the bloodbath, swarms of fey infested the church and invaded their bodies, burrowing into their open wounds. These corpses have since decayed beyond recognition, but the fey still use the husks to defend their land from any trespassers.

Defeat Crooked Bough to unlock Inferno Difficulty IX.

Abysslurker: Within the northern mountain ranges of the Sharval Wilds lies an abandoned bridge reclaimed by the land. The Abysslurker, a colossal fey, prowls within the depths below the stone overpass, waiting for prey. Few have dared to cross the bridge, and even fewer have been seen again.

Feature Updates

PC Key Shortcuts

  • Added an auto-run key that causes your character to automatically follow the position of your mouse cursor. Default key: ` (the tilde key).
  • Added a new setting that allows you to click on your skills to cast them. This setting is not enabled by default.
  • You can now bind actions to side mouse buttons. Currently, only up to two side mouse buttons are supported, but we will be looking at supporting additional side mouse buttons in the future.
  • You can now press Spacebar to skip cutscenes.
Portal Interruption

Ever been caught off guard digging through your map to set up a portal, only to be stopped by a small spider? We’ve improved the portal experience by reducing interruptions that cancel the action of summoning a portal in the wilderness.

Developer’s Note: These changes minimize frustrating moments where players are unintentionally pulled into combat. Our goal is to make traversal feel smoother and more respectful of your intent. There will still be interruption rules for PvP and other events.

Stormpoint Keep

An additional waypoint was added to Stormpoint Keep near the southern ramparts, between the existing Stormpoints Battlements and the Barbican Traverse waypoints.

Battleground Matchmaking

To continue our ongoing initiative to improve Battleground’s matchmaking system, we have introduced another round of updates. These updates aim to more fairly match you against other players of relative skill, resulting in more balanced games. We plan to continue fine-tuning this system in the future.

Battleground Convoy

We’ve received feedback that players feel as though the default camera angle and a lack of information about what’s going on during a match have made it difficult to play Battleground Convoy. To address this feedback, we’ve made some changes:
  • At any time during a match, you can tap and hold on the screen to pan your camera around the battlefield. Releasing will cause the camera to snap back to your character’s location. This action can be performed on PC by clicking and holding the scroll wheel of your mouse.
  • You can ping anywhere on the battlefield to alert your team using a button next to the minimap.
  • The requirement to press a button to revive has been removed.
  • While waiting to review, you can now spectate your teammates.
  • Voiceover callouts have been added to communicate when teammates die, objectives are captured, and other useful information.
Developer’s Note: We’re excited to see how these updates provide players with more battlefield awareness and aid performance. Going forward, we will continue to look for ways to improve Battleground Convoy, so please provide us with any feedback you may have.

Vanguard

We’re refreshing Vanguard mode to kick off a new cycle, beginning with a reimagined Lidwinter Woods. This update removes some frustrating mechanics that previously slowed progression and introduces new tiers of difficulty to better challenge and reward you. We’re also expanding the presence of Spectral Allies in the early difficulty tiers, providing you with more options and an engaging way to shape your playstyle from the start.

Developer’s Note: These changes mark the beginning of a broader effort to revitalize Vanguard mode and ensure each rotation feels fresh, rewarding, and worth returning to. Moving forward, we continue making changes to this mode that aligns with these goals.

Raid the Vault

Entering the Vault will no longer grant Activity Points towards your Deeds of Valor badge, and instead, you will earn 15 Activity Points when you open a chest inside the Vault. Fully clearing all four floors of the Vault and opening all chests grants 150 Activity Points, helping you to complete the weekly Activity requirements in as little as four full clears.

Build Recommendations

Over the coming months, we’re updating the Build Recommendation page to better highlight the creativity and expertise of our community. The first update is a new tab that showcases the top PvP and PvE players from our leaderboards. You can now view, explore, and even save these builds directly into your Armory.

Developer’s Note: As we continue to evolve this feature, we plan to introduce more ways for players to share, discover, and celebrate builds created by the community.

Item Power UI

It currently takes a lot of taps/clicks to see all the equipped Set and Legendary powers that apply to your character, so we've added a Set and Legendary powers overview button to both the Inventory and Armory menus. This new page explains all applied powers and should be helpful for those looking to fine tune or share their builds with others.

Hero’s Journey

Hero’s Journey will reset on June 19. The first four chapters of the next Hero’s Journey will be available for you to complete, with the Quill and Parchment Frame as your reward.

Challenge Rift

Challenge Rift Season 13 runs from June 19–August 25, increasing the maximum floor level to 550 while also lowering the requirements for floors 481–500.

Adventurer’s Chronicle

We've added 10 new tales for the Adventurer's Chronicle scattered throughout Sanctuary. Most can be added to your chronicle simply by locating them in the wilderness, but one will only be found through unconventional means.

Cycle of Strife Burning Cloaks

Two new Burning Cloaks are available for worthy Immortals to snatch up!

Burning Cloak of the Boundless: Earned by spending 63 weeks as an Immortal with at least 8 Blessed Reigns.
