So, this is Mococo's guide, translated by someone else this time, but you can still blame me if there's something wrong or off about it, instead of assume there's an actual mistake in the guide itself, since I did check it. I'm taking one for the team!!1 Also i apologize for the formatting being a bit plain, but I thought you'd rather have a plain guide now rather than a fancy one, but much later. Correct me if I'm wrong! Anyway here we go:
Greetings.
In this guide I'll give you some insight into what you can expect as a hunter in the coming Cataclysm-Pre-Patch, which glyphs habe been reworked, changes to the abilities and talents, and what you should avoid.
1. Changes to the hunter and his talents
You’ve probably noticed that the talent trees of each class have been drastically reduced in size and scope. Now you'll only 31 need points to reach the Ultimate of the respective talent tree.
At level 80 there are 36 points to spend, and therefore some talents were deleted or changed.
Beast Mastery
Removed Talents
Improved Aspect of the Hawk, Endurance Training, Improved Revive Pet, Ferocity, Animal Handler, Catlike Reflexes, Focus Fire.
Changed Talents
Frenzy: Frenzy is no longer bound to your pet’s critical strikes. Your pet gains 6% attack speed whenever it hits with a Basic Attack (Claw etc...), lasting 10 secs and stacking up to 5 times.
Aspect Mastery: Aspect Mastery was completely changed and is now called „One with Nature“. The effect of other Aspects is no longer increased by this talent. Instead, „One with Nature“ will give you 30% attack power bonus with Aspect of the Hawk and increases the amount of focus restored with Aspect of the Fox by 3%.
Invigoration: Now regenerates focus instead of mana.
Kindred Spirits: No longer increases your pet’s damage and gives no bonus on your movement speed. Instead it increases the maximum focus of the hunter and his pet by 5/10.
Bestial Wrath: Now only increases your pet’s damage by 20% over 10 seconds.
New Talents
Fervor: Instantly restores 50 Focus to you and your pet.
Focus Fire: The replacement for Improved Aspect of the Hawk. It will consume your pet’s Frenzy effect, restoring 4 Focus to your pet and increasing your ranged haste by 3% for each Frenzy stack consumed. Lasts for 15 seconds and has to be activated manually.
Killing Streak: When you score two Kill Command critical hits in a row, your third will deal 10/20% more damage and have its cost reduced by 10 focus.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimera: Whenever you are hit by a melee attack, the cooldown of your Disengage is instantly reduced by 2/4 seconds. Whenever you are hit by a ranged attack or spell, the cooldown of your Deterrence is instantly reduced by 4/8 seconds.
Marksmanship
Removed Talents
Improved Concussive Shot, Focused Aim, Lethal Shots, Improved Hunter's Mark, Improved Arcane Shot, Mortal Shots, Improved Stings, Barrage, Ranged Weapon Specialization, Combat Experience, Improved Concussive Shot, Improved Barrage.
Changed Talents
Efficiency: Now reduces the focus cost of your Arcane Shot by 3, and your Explosive Shot and your Chimera Shot by 6.
Improved Steady Shot: When you use Steady Shot twice in a row, your ranged attack speed will be increased by 5/10/15% for 8 sec.
Rapid Recuperation: You gain 12 focus every 3 sec while under the effect of Rapid Fire, and you gain 50 focus instantly when you gain Rapid Killing.
Master Marksman: You have a 60% chance when you use Steady Shot to gain the Master Marksman effect, lasting 30 sec. After reaching 5 stacks, your next Aimed Shot's cast time and focus cost are reduced by 100% for 10 sec.
Marked for Death: Your Arcane Shot and Chimera Shot have a 50/100% chance to automatically apply the Marked for Death effect.
New Talents
Bombardment: When you critically hit with your Multi-Shot your next Multi-Shot's focus cost will be reduced by 25/50%.
Posthaste: Reduces the cooldown of your Rapid Fire by 1/2 min, and your movement speed is increased by 15/30% for 4 sec after you use Disengage.
Resistance is Futile: When your marked target attempts to run, flee or move, you have a 4/8% chance to cause your next Kill Command on the marked target within 8 sec to refund the focus cost.
Survival
Removed Talents
Hawk Eye, Savage Strikes, Scatter Shot (Now available at the class trainer, yay!), Killer Instinct, Lightning Reflexes, Expose Weakness, Master Tactician, Surefooted and Explosive Shot.
Changed Talents
Hunting Party: Now Increases your total Agility by an additional 10%, and increases the Ranged and Melee Attack Speed of all party and raid members by 10%.
Snipers Training: Now affects Cobra Shot.
New Talents
Pathing: Increases ranged haste by 1/2/3%.
Serpent Spread: Targets hit by your Multi-Shot are also afflicted by your Serpent Sting equal to 6/9 sec of its total duration.
Toxicology: Increases the periodic critical damage of your Serpent Sting and Black Arrow by 50/100%.
Mirrored Blades: When attacked by a spell while in Deterrence, you have a 50/100% chance to reflect it back at the attacker.
2. Changes to Hunter's Glyphs
Misdirection: When you use Misdirection on your pet, the cooldown on your Misdirection is reset.
Arcane Shot: Your Arcane Shot deals 6% more damage on targets afflicted by your Serpent Sting.
Rapid Fire: Now Increases the haste from Rapid Fire by an additional 10% (up from 8%).
Aimed Shot: When you critically hit with Aimed Shot, you instantly gain 5 Focus.
Kill Shot: If your Kill Shot fails to kill the target on a target at or below 25% health, your Kill Shot's cooldown is instantly reset. This effect has a 6 sec cooldown.
New Glyphs
Dazzled Prey: Your Steady Shot generates an additional 2 Focus on targets afflicted by a daze effect.
3. Rotations, Specs and more
Beast Mastery
Spec
The reason for the elimination of „Sic'Em!“ and 3/3-efficiency is that you won't get Cobra Shot until level 81, which means you have to renew Serpent Sting constantly. Of course some of you will aks whether it's not better to take the 50% saving on focus for the next attack of your pet, but in my opinion one will have enough Critical Strike Rating at Level 80 to bypass this with Go for the Throat. And to apply 30% of the total damage on the target with each renewal of Serpent Sting is not to be underestimated.

Rotation
The „rotation“, or in this case, probably priority list is really simple and you can do almost nothing wrong.
Focus Fire (No GCD)
Kill Shot
Kill Command
Serpent Sting
Arcane Shot
Steady Shot
Here you must remember that the hunter now uses focus instead of mana. This means you must constantly make sure that you have enough focus left after each action to cast your next cooldown without a delay. Here's a little example:
Start of fight → Serpent Sting → Kill Command → Arcane Shot → Spam → even more Arcane Shot → Spam → Kill Command is soon ready → not enough focus → 2nd Kill Command comes with a delay because you had to regenerate focus with Steady Shot → 2nd Kill Command has been activated → meanwhile Serpent Sting has not been reapllied in time and therefore you lost DPS.
This scenario is unacceptable. You have to be aware that Arcane Shot is not your #1 source of damage. It's only a filler and a focus-dump. But that doesn't mean you should neglect it. Arcane Shot is still an integral part of your prioriy list. If you use this shot too little you will accumulate too much focus and in this case you lose DPS.
Here is a slightly more detailed example to show you how to do it right:
Start of fight → Serpent Sting → Kill Command (now you should have 45 focus) → Steady Shot until Kill Command is ready once again or you reach the limit of your focusbar. In case you get near to 110 focus just use 1-2x Arcane Shot and then Kill Command → 15 seconds left until the renewal of Serpent Sting → continue to use Steady Shot and Arcane Shot in a way that enables you to cast Kill Command without a delay → If it wasn't screwed up you should just have used Kill Command for the 3rd time and Serpent Sting has 8 seconds left to be renewed → Steady & Arcane (save focus, in a moment you'll need 65 focus to cast Serpent Sting after your 4th Kill Command → Kill Command → Serpent Sting → repeat.
As you can see it is not that difficult. If you practiced it almost takes care of itself. Either way you have to learn to preserve your focus in a proper way which just takes a little practice until you get it right. By the way: The beginning of this battle scenario is not recommended. I've neglected Bestial Wrath, Rapid Fire, Fervor, Kill Shot and Focus Fire to make this section a bit simpler. Otherwise it would be too long and confusing.
But bear in mind that the priority list could easily be changed at any time. The scaling of Kill Command and Arcane Shot is currently beeing tuned up and down and until the patch goes live it could be the case that Kill Command is no longer worthwhile due to identical damage done by Arcane Shot.

The Marksmanship Hunter has no more glyphs which increase his damage directly. Everything else can be assigned as you like.
Progression of battle/Rotation
The Marksmanship Hunter is a little more difficult to play than the Beastmaster Hunter. The Improved Steady Shot talent won't let you execute a pretty flexible shot priority as the Beastmaster. Instead you have to make sure that the buff (which you gain when you use Steady Shot two times in a row) which lets the hunter get 15% attack speed and lasts 7 seconds) won't expire. On the Beta server I've spent several hours with the dummies and finally decided on a pretty fixed rotation with an integrated priority list. It looks like this:
Start of fight → CD's → Serpent Sting → Chimera Shot → 2x Steady Shot → 2x Arcane Shot → 2x Steady Shot → Chimera Shot → 2x Steady Shot (now there's a chance that you can use a Aimed Shot without casting time. If the Proc should appear before the second Steady Shot has been fired you should use the Steady Shot first) → If you already accumulated 5 stacks you should use Aimed Shot now. If this isn't the case just use 2x Arcane Shot → 2x Steady Shot ( There is now a very high chance that you can use Aimed Shot without casting time but it should only be used after the 2nd Steady Shot and the Chimera Shot) → Chimera Shot → Aimed Shot
This has actually prevented the buff from expiring quite well. By the use of 2 GCD's between the Steady Shots you prevent the focus from “overcapping“ and the chance to lose the 15% attack speed buff will also be reduced by not using the Aimed Shot Procc between the two Steady Shots.
In short:
→ Serpent Sting → Chimera Shot → 2x Steady Shot → 2x Arcane Shot → 2x Steady Shot → repeat from step 2 and use the Aimed Shot Procc only after Chimera Shot or in combination with Arcane Shot to ensure nearly 100% uptime from Improved Steady Shot.
A spec and rotation for the Survival Hunter will not be in this guides because I haven't been playing the Beta for long and couldn't test the Survival Hunter enough to recommend an acceptable rotation/gameplay.
4.Sockets and Enchants
By eliminating the 3% hit rating with the patch (Focus Aim changes) the top priority is now to reach the hitcap through gear, enchantments or gems. Since there won't be a Mastery-Gem on level 80 you can leave everything on Agility.
That's it already. I thank you for reading and wish you much fun with the patch and Cataclysm.
